Rebel Squadrons

Running Classic Games on New OSes

The classic Star Wars games can encounter problems when they meet the latest operating systems. These guides are intended to help solve issues with the X-Wing series and Windows XP and 2000.

Guides

X-Wing

The oldest of Star Wars PC game that Rebel Squadrons supports is X-Wing. There are two versions of this game, the old DOS version and the Windows 95 version.

The Windows 95 version will run on Windows 2000 and XP, although there are some issues with it - changing the cockpit view and looking at the in flight map, briefing or damage control will cause the game to print several versions of the cockpit, making flying difficult due to extremely low visibility. However, it will still run.

The DOS version of the game isn't so lucky. Windows 2000 and XP don't actually use DOS, so an emulation program is needed. The two files needed for this can be downloaded from the links below.
