Section 4: The Structure of the Rebel Squadrons

The Rebel Squadrons is an online gaming organization based around the Star Wars universe. The management and command structure of the Rebel Squadrons is laid out in the Rebel Squadrons Bylaws. They can be viewed online at http://www.rebelsquadrons.org/bylaws.php in Bylaw Section 2: Administrative Structure and Bylaw Section 3: Fleet Structure.

The Rebel Squadrons is by definition an oligarchy. The highest and final authority in the club is the High Command (HC), which is comprised of the Fleet Commanding Officers from each Fleet. A simple majority vote is used by the High Command to make decisions and establish new policies. For more information on RS High Command, please visit http://www.rebelsquadrons.org/fc/hc.php.

The High Command elects the Rebel Squadrons Fleet Commander (FC), who is the leader, figurehead, and officer with the highest individual executive authority in the Rebel Squadrons organization. As a result, the RS FC's primary responsibilities include running the day-to-day operations of the Rebel Squadrons, executing policies, and moderating RS High Command. The Fleet Commander also has an Executive Staff that works for him to assist in the daily running of the club. Additionally, the Rebel Squadrons Executive Officer (RSXO) works as the Fleet Commander’s direct second-in-command. For more information about the Fleet Commander and the Executive Staff, please visit http://www.rebelsquadrons.org/fc/ and Section 5 of this Manual.

The Rebel Squadrons supports a wide variety of different platforms and means of interactive participation. Therefore, to help support all of these needs, it can be said that the Rebel Squadrons is a federation of Fleets. Accordingly, each individual Fleet is broken down according to the game or type of game the members of the respective Fleet play.

The Fleet Commanding Officers (Fleet COs) are below the Fleet Commander and the RS Executive Officer. Each Fleet CO is responsible for their respective Fleet, and has a Fleet Executive Officer (Fleet XO) to assist them. Each Fleet consists of a minimum of two Wings, each with a Wing Commanding Officer (Wing CO) and Wing Executive Officer (Wing XO). Each Wing consists of at least two, but no more than three Squadrons, each with a Squadron Commanding Officer (Squad CO) and Squadron Executive Officer (Squad XO) of their own. For more information about each Fleet, please visit http://www.rebelsquadrons.org/fleets.php.

In Fleets where the terms Wing and Squadron are not correct, other terms may be substituted. For example, Wings may become Companies, and Squadrons may become Squads. However, the chain of command will remain the same. Therefore the standard Fleet organizational structure is generally Squadron-> Wing-> Fleet-> RS.

Therefore, the standard chain of command in the RS is Squad XO/CO-> Wing XO/CO -> Fleet XO/CO -> FC-> HC.

As a general member, you are entitled to email the High Command with any suggestions, praise, or criticism that you may have. However, for general issues it is best to follow your chain of command when asking questions, or to solve a problem. As a last resort, however, the Rebel Squadrons Minister of Justice is available to redirect judicial complaints or handle them if necessary. Please see http://www.rebelsquadrons.org/doia/ for more details about complaints.

Unit commanders may also create other necessary slots for positions at their discretion. This may include Second Officers, Internet Officers, or ITOD Officers as examples. However, please consult a Fleet’s website to find out specific information for each of these miscellaneous positions because they are unique for each Fleet. However, you only need to be aware that other positions not outlined in this Manual do exist.

Rebel Squadrons general members are not limited to any amount of units. If it is your desire, you can serve as a member of every single Fleet that the RS offers. However, it is in your best interests to take on only what you can adequately handle with the time you have. You will have more fun if you are not stressing out over Rebel Squadrons work and responsibilities. The whole point of the Rebel Squadrons is to have fun in the Star Wars universe – not to have a nervous breakdown here.

As a general member, however, you are required to declare a single Fleet as your Primary Fleet. This is the Fleet where it is assumed that you are most active, and where you intend to do your best work. It is kind of your home Fleet, where you may branch out of to become active elsewhere. It is also where you will receive your promotions. Promotions may only be granted by personnel in your primary Fleet and club-command personnel (HC, FC, RSXO). New and perspective members will be able to select his or her Primary Fleet on the RS Roster Database once they have achieved full membership.
