A Good Day

Mia eased herself off Petty Officer Cryus with a satisfied smile, shaking her long black hair to ease out the tangles after their hurried lovemaking. After enduring countless jokes about being saved by them recently, she had to admit that those boys from the Assault Transport Brier were okay. Cryus was a young human from the Arkanis who was currently serving on Brier, and after several Corellian spiced ale’s too many last night, things had just happened.
‘Second Lieutenant StormChaser, report to the ready room in ten standard minutes.’ A disembodied voice sounded from Mia’s comlink, which lay somewhere under a pile of her garments on Cryus’ floorspace.
‘Looks like we’re going to say our goodbyes later.’ Breathed Mia to Cryus as she reached for her uniform.
‘Look forward to it, Ma’am.’ Cryus replied, a wide grin on his face.
‘Enough of that Petty Officer or I’ll have you up on a charge.’ Smiled Mia as she landed a quick kiss on Cryus lips before hurriedly leaving his cabin.

‘Your late, Lieutenant, take a seat.’ Remarked Colonel Draw as Mia almost ran into the ready room in her haste to get there.
‘Sorry Sir won’t happen again.’ Mia replied, quickly finding herself a seat as far to the back of the briefing room as possible. She could see that Lieutenant Blackhawk was smiling to himself, then remembered in horror that he had been in the bar last night with the Brier crew as well. That was her reputation shot then…
‘Okay, listen up people; I’ve got various assignments for you today.’ Colonel Draw continued, once Mia had taken her seat.

As she exited hyperspace, Mia had to pull sharply upwards to avoid the heavily damaged Imperial corvette. This time out, she was supporting another convoy raid, which by the looks of it was well on its way already to destruction. After her narrow miss with the corvette, Mia concentrated on getting her bearings in the mass of combats going on in this small part of space.
She soon saw that a number of Assault Gunboats were doing some damage to their fleet of attacking Y-Wings, so opening up her A-Wing engines; she engaged the nearest Gunboat, whittling it’s shields down before launching two of her missiles at close range to finish the gunboat off.
Turning her craft, Mia checked to see which supply ships were left, and picked a nearby freighter. Strafing fire across its side, Mia was about to turn for a second run on the freighter, when her threat indicator started to light up. Cursing, she kept turning, but soon she heard the alarm that the missile had locked onto her. Despite her best efforts, the missile smashed into her craft, sending it into a spin from which she was lucky to survive.
Checking her shields, she noticed they were now dangerously weak, so pumping some energy from her bank of lasers she provided a boost to them. Yet again her threat light started blinking, but she was able to get behind yet another Assault Gunboat, and quickly sent it oblivion.
Hearing shortly after that the core mission objectives had been achieved, Mia paused as long as she dared to assess the situation. Yet more Assault Gunboats were vectoring in to her position, plus a System Patrol Craft had just made an appearance from hyperspace. It was time to make herself disappear, and quickly.

‘Good work out there Lieutenant.’ Colonel Draw said as Mia made her mission report.
‘Thank you Sir should have stayed longer though.’ Mia replied. She had heard that several of the Y-Wing pilots had taken the final jump as they were trying to escape the combat area. Perhaps if she had not been so keen to leave the fight, they would have made it bake safely.
‘Nonsense. You assessed the situation correctly. In fact, I’ve got good news for you.’ Colonel Draw replied.
‘Sir?’
‘I’m promoting you to First Lieutenant. Congratulations StormChaser.’ Colonel Draw smiled.
Speechless, Mia could only take the Colonel’s proffered hand. Promotion? Already?
‘I’m afraid you won’t have long to celebrate though, as I’ll need you out there again very soon.’ The Colonel said.
Mia saluted as the Colonel left.

This was turning out to be a very good day indeed.
