Narrative for Mission RS 2.02X as Plt file MGNDL202-C is as follows:

Main Hanger Bay, MC80a Star Cruiser – McGrath:

MP (MPD-134) Damon’s copper colored protocol droid had just received word the pilots were returning from their mission assignment. He stands in the main hanger and waits for Damon to return as he has always done. However this time was a little different being that he stood there alone and not with anyone. Unlike missions past where he’d meet MGN’s Shane Long or Steve Hawkins if not both. They were the former CO and XO of Red Squadron respectively. MP would normally join them as they awaited the return of their pilots after each mission.

This time around now he waited on the new CO of Red which that duty had now passed to Damon himself. MP was very happy Damon had achieved his new position. Although MP couldn’t fully grasp why he didn’t feel the same way even a little bit. Of course what MP failed to realize was the way he fully viewed it. To Damon it was his duty as the SO at the time to take charge if the CO and XO were unable to do so. So with the disappearance of Shane and Steve as well as many others the responsibilities of CO fell to him. As a result of this turn of events Red Squadron was now a mere shadow of what it once was.

He also knew they must have had their reasons for leaving in this fashion. However he was still disappointed to lose them none the less. Not to mention the fact that a number of those who left were personal friends to Damon himself. Many of which date back prior to his arrival to the RS, the PSG, and Red Squadron. Especially since it was because of Shane and Steve he came to join the RS as well as the PSG almost 4 years earlier. Of course back then the PSG (Patriot Starfighter Group) was more commonly known as the PBF (Patriot Battle Fleet). With all of what as taken place in a short time Damon was left feeling uncertain as to what Red’s fate would be.

Damon knew he had to move forward with what pilots he did have and operate as normally as they possibly could. He also knew he had put on a good face to keep the rest of Red’s pilots moral up. He did this the best he could to hide the troubles from view of Red’s remaining pilots. He decided to that being positive and remaining hopeful was the best course of action. This was done to keep them from being discouraged or distracted by this so they wouldn’t lose focus well on a mission. For Damon it was a little easier to stay focused because missions and duty shifts seemed to give him a bit of a reprieve from his current worries.

With all that currently weighed on him it was nice to get away from those thoughts. Even if it was only temporarily but that was enough for him to stay focused. MP knew most of this best of all but still had trouble understanding Damon’s frustrations even in light of these events. MP continued to ponder over these things as he stood there waiting for Damon to return. He watched as the hanger crew’s scurried about in preparation of the arrival of the returning pilots. Occasionally MP glanced down at the data pad he was holding to give to Damon. Delivering data pads to him seamed to be more of a regular task now which MP took as an assignment of some importance.

Of course anything that kept him busy was of some importance and meant he would not upset Damon. Considering that he was prone to getting in trouble even though his intentions were good. MP remembered what Damon had said to him after being put back together after his last run in with Steve’s droid ARP. It echoed over and over as if it was being said for the first time: “If I ever hear of you not listening, snooping around, or being a disruption again I will disassemble you myself. I will then pack you up and send you to my brother Cam to be placed in storage. There you will stay until decide when or if I ever put you back together. Do I make myself perfectly clear?”

MP shook his head and again looked around the hanger a moment. The idea of being deactivated, dissembled, and placed in a storage container indefinitely made him shutter at the mere thought of it. He also knew Damon would follow through with this especially now if he did anything to upset him. So MP was more then happy to be assign tasks by RS or PSG personnel it made him feel useful. Plus it also meant he was less likely to get in to trouble by focusing on those tasks he was assigned. It was at this moment MP realized he had been I bit of a nuisance in the past and felt guilty for having done so. Damon had always counted on him no matter what and MP made a vowed to make it up to him somehow.

Moments later the A-Wings entered the hanger as the crew’s scampered around as they directed them in to position. MP surveyed the fighters as the moved in to their designated landing zones. The first A-Wing had light to moderate damage while the second seamed almost untouched. This was the routine MP got use to doing in the past with Shane and Steve. MP always guessed this was their way of gauging the opposition that they faced on any given mission. Soon after both A-Wings touched down on the deck and began powering down. MP waited a moment to make sure it was safe and then proceeded across the hanger toward the two pilots.

Both Damon and his wingman had exited their A-Wings by the time MP almost reached there location. As he got closer MP could see both of them were talking each with their helmets tucked up under one arm. Soon he was right next to them but he chose to be patient and not interrupt. “It’s like I said sometimes your best weapon on an A-Wing is its speed.” Damon said. “Well guess your right about that when you compare you’re A-Wing to mine.” His wingman says with a chuckle. “These things happen but you made it back in one piece and that’s the important thing.” Damon adds. “True but isn’t messing with your systems risky during a battle?” The wingman asks.

Damon was about to answer when he noticed MP standing there behind him. He then turned to MP holding up one finger to signal he’d be finished in a moment. MP nodded in acknowledgement and continued to wait patiently. Damon then turn back to his wingman and responded. “Yes of course it risky but not if you know how to use it to your advantage. However this will have to wait until after debriefing because we if disgust this any further we’ll never get there.” “Ah that wouldn’t be good to have them send out a search party for two pilots talking shop in the hanger.” The wingman replies.

They both laughed nervously for a moment and then Damon adds. “Nope that wouldn’t be good at all. Go on ahead I’ll catch up with you in a moment and again good work out there.” “Thanks I’ll see you in bit then.” The wingman adds. Damon nods as his wingman walks away and then he turns to MP. “Walk with me and sorry about the wait I didn’t realize you were there that whole time.” “No need to apologize sir I have learned this is what Squad mates do after a mission from time to time.” MP replies. “Still I should be setting a better example now to the others. I should have disgust it on the way to debriefing instead of just standing there wasting time.” Damon says noticeably upset with himself.

MP didn’t know what to say next but after brief pause he replied. “Sir you should not be so hard on yourself. With everything that has happened recently you have to give yourself time to get use to your new position.” “I guess your right MP however old habits are hard to break sometimes.” Damon says as he notices the data pad MP is holding and chooses not to ask anything about it yet. “I agree with you on that sir and I do know a thing or two about old habits.” MP says. Damon laughs and replies. “That you do my friend however you have improved greatly over these last several months and I appreciate that a lot.”

MP was please to hear this and again paused a moment before he responded. “Thank you sir I have been trying to be useful and not a problem like I had been in the past.” “You haven’t been and I’m happy to see that you finally understand this. Plus you’ve been be my side for a long time and I can’t remember how many time you’ve saved my hide.” Damon adds. “Neither can I sir.” MP says. Damon again laughs and replies. “Now your being modest and I know you have the exact number memorized.” MP looks down and realizes he’d still had the data pad. “Oh I had almost forgotten Admrial Borran had asked me to give this to you.”

Damon looking little wary about the data pad and was reluctant to take it from MP. This however was due to receiving bad news from the last several that MP had delivered. He took the data pad after hesitating a moment then asked. “What is it this time or do I even want to know?” “It is good news they found Red another pilot. Also there are is note in there about your new quarters you have been assigned. I took the liberty and moved your stuff there once I was informed about it.” MP explains. “Ok I’m glad to hear about getting another pilot and you’ll have to explain things further on that last part. However that will have to wait until after I get finished with the debriefing.” Damon replies.

MP just nodded in acknowledgment as Damon handed the data pad back to him. The swirling range of emotions Damon had felt these last several days had once again had returned. As did the familiar pounding in his head as if it was again under attack by miniature Tie Fighters. He then told MP he’d meet up with him as soon as he got out of the debriefing. As MP turned and walked away Damon then took a few moments to gather himself before entering the debriefing room. After closing his eyes and taking some deep breaths until the pounding in his head had subsided enough. “Ok one thing at a time first the debriefing then the other stuff.” He said to himself as entered the debriefing room.

Three hours later: Officers Lounge, MC80a Star Cruiser – McGrath:

After the debriefing MP it didn’t take long to explain things in full detail of what was going on. Damon now sits in corner of the lounge occasionally slipping his drink. He goes over several data pads he had picked up from his new quarters. Normally he’d do his reports and review duty assignments in the privacy of his quarters. However his newly assign living space made him feel a bit uneasy since they last were assigned to Shane. Also the last time he had been in these quarters was to have a Red Squadron command staff meeting. To Damon his new quarters were more luxurious then the ones he comes accustom too.

They were far larger than his old quarters and were divided in to two parts. The first section as you walk in was set up as an office with a desk off to the right where he’d found several data pads left behind. On the left side of this section was a small round meeting table where he’d sat with Shane and Steve on many occasions. Across from the main entrance was I second doorway which leads to the living area. This section was not much different from his old living space except for a little more length as well as width. What was also different there were three small viewports on the wall across from the entrance to this area.

Damon had guessed his new quarters were apart of the territory that came with now being the CO of Red Squadron. He however still felt unworthy of such accommodations mostly due to the fashion in which he got them. He also knew he’d have to come to terms with this at some point but for now he was content. Just being around his fellow pilots in the lounge brought him to a level of comfort and to focus he needed. Shifting from one data pad to the next he diligently worked on updating the roster, duty assignments, and prepared a Squadron status report. He knew someone would ask about these before too long so he thought it would be best to get them done now.

After he’d finished working on those he then took a moment to get familiar with his new pilot. He felt it was best to review Colonel Misko Markot’s service record before meeting his new arrival. As he read on he found that Misko had several stints with various Squadrons. During some of those stints he’d served with Stealth, Sabre, Gold and Red Squadron as well. As soon as he’d finish reading this Damon decided to take a break and mingle with some of his fellow pilots for a bit. During this time he’d manage to catch up with several friends he made since he’d been here. He also managed to meet and welcome Misko to the squadron personally.

After hour of conversation with his fellow pilots Damon went back to his table. He’d still had one thing left to do which was go over his mission report one last time. He sat down and started to read it back to himself and made a few more additions or corrections as needed:

As soon as Damon was satisfied he signed it placed on top of the pile of data pads he’d completed earlier. Then got another drink and made one last pass around the lounge to say he was turning in for the night. Once he’d finished his drink Damon collected his data pads waved to everyone as he left. He had one last stop to make to turn in the reports he’d just completed. Soon after that Damon now exhausted returns to his new quarters for a much needed rest.
